About Me
I am Dr. Anthony Oskar Alvarado, an educational leader currently serving as Principal of Ida Jew Academy and Valle Vista Elementary School (IJAVVE), a TK–8 campus. My work centers on building strong systems that support instructional excellence, positive school culture, and meaningful student experiences.
As a school leader, I believe culture and instruction must move together. At IJAVVE, we implemented the Energy Bus framework to cultivate a joyful and connected campus climate grounded in relationships, gratitude, and shared accountability. At the same time, I established structured data review cycles, facilitated focused data conversations with teachers, and ensured collaboration time is purposeful and aligned to student outcomes. My leadership approach emphasizes clarity, coherence, and continuous improvement.
I am especially proud of expanding opportunities that allow students to thrive beyond the classroom. Under my leadership, we launched a robotics program, sent six teams to the Tech Challenge, strengthened STEAM integration across grade levels, and expanded the arts through Drama Club, Choir, and Art Fair. Our civic engagement efforts earned the Civic Learning Award of Distinction in 2024 and the Civic Learning Award of Excellence in 2025. In 2026, our school received the YMCA Positive Cultural Identity Award, reflecting our intentional commitment to belonging and student voice.
In May 2024, I completed my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at San José State University. I also serve as an adjunct instructor in the Multiple Subject Credential Program, teaching EDTE 260: Creating Learning Communities. Teaching future educators allows me to connect theory to practice and remain grounded in research-based instructional leadership.
My professional journey includes experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Across these roles, I have focused on strengthening instructional systems, supporting educator development, and creating environments where students and adults grow together.
As I continue my leadership journey, I remain open to opportunities that allow me to expand my impact, contribute strategically to school and district systems, and continue growing both personally and professionally. I am driven by the belief that thoughtful leadership, grounded in equity and collaboration, can transform outcomes for students and communities.
